One of the most frustrating things in SL is trying to learn how it all works. Just going through orientation island is not enough. You hope to "stumble" into good resources to learn how to change your appearance, build things or even learn the camera controls well enough to have a good experiences in this metaverse. I had a lucky day when I learned about New Citizens Incorporated or NCI in Second Life. This is an amazing place for new avatars trying to make sense of this space. If you don't mind a little advertising here and there, you can take advantage of the tutorial resources in this sim at Kuula (54, 166, 28). From here, I'm off to Bromley College at Sunset Isle to learn more about Linden Scripting. Their free in-world exhibition of the Linden scripting language is very easy to follow and very helpful! I have to say that I'm very impressed with their effort putting this together.
My favorite section of NCI plaza was its section of freebies, I literally spent one whole hour choosing free stuff and scripts that I thought I could use later such as the quizmaster and votemaster objects from Linden Labs. Good stuff.
